Olive Trees

By Elizabeth Morgan Olive trees are found in the Mediterranean region, several parts of Africa, and in tropical and central Asia. Olive trees require subtropical climate and can thrive in long dry summers and mild winters. There are different varieties of olive trees available and gardeners can purchase fruitless varieties or fruit bearing varieties. Olive trees can greatly vary in their looks and may have weeping branches or long and narrow leaves. These trees can also be dwarfed to form fine bonsai indoor plants or can be included in gardens for beautification. Olive is liked by many gardeners as it is an evergreen tree and its fruit can be used to make oil and pickles. This tree can grow up to 50 ft. in height and can be 30 ft. wide. However, a height of 20 ft. can be maintained with periodic pruning. Its grayish silver foliage can give a very interesting look to landscapes and gardens. Olive trees can live up to 500 years. Olive trees bear small, cream-colored flowers that have a sweet fragrance. The olive tree has two types of flowers, a normal flower that contains male as well as female parts, and a staminate flower that has only stamens. The olive fruit is initially greenish in color and later turns in to a blackish purple shade after becoming ripe. However, a few varieties remain green after ripening, while some varieties obtain a copper brown color after becoming ripe. The fruits vary significantly in terms of shape, flavor and the amount of oil contained. The trees require regular pruning to maintain the shape and size. Olive trees may also suffer damage due to certain pests such as the medfly and the Dacus oleae. It is recommended to avoid planting olive trees on contaminated soil. Pruning olive trees with contaminated tools during rainy seasons can result in a bacterial disease known as “olive knot.” Olive trees require well-drained soil, as they are prone to root rotting. Proper irrigation system is required for olive trees. However, they can withstand extended dry periods. Fertilizers with extra supply of nitrogen can help the growth of olive trees considerably. Applying for a Small Business Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rebecca_Game]Rebecca Game When you have ideas, plans, and desires in place, the anticipation of moving forward in operation a small business is extremely exciting. Only one thing can hold you back - money. Working with a lender and applying for a small business loan can be easy or difficult, depending on how much preparation you’ve put into the process. The lender will ask for a variety of items when applying for a small business loan 1. Business Plan. If you don’t already have one, write one. Virtually no lender will consider you for a small business loan without the organization, detail, and direction you have for your business, and all of this is stated in a business plan. For information on how to write a business plan, visit www.sample-business-plan.org/sample-business-plan-directory.html. Don’t be afraid to hire a professional writer to write or proofread the plan for you if you’re not confident in doing it yourself. 2. Loan Proposal. Nearly all lenders require a loan proposal if you are applying for a small business loan. After you’ve written a detailed business plan, your loan proposal can be written. The information in a loan proposal includes details on who you are, including your experience and business desires; how much money you need and what it will be used to purchase or fund; how you intend to pay back the loan; and what your plans are if you cannot pay the loan back in full. 3. Completed Lender’s Application. Most lenders will also require that you complete a business loan application when applying for a small business loan. Your application should be very organized and presented in a professional manner. Don’t omit any details, and be completely honest about your credit history, even if you don’t have an excellent credit rating, when applying for a small business loan. Some lenders base their loans on the character of the person applying for a small business loan, and if you’re “borderline” for qualifying for the loan, your honest application can prove to the lender that you are indeed trustworthy for receiving a small business loan. 4. Financial Statements. If your business is already in existence, visit the lender for your interview with two years of tax records, as well as two years of business and personal bank statements when applying for a small business loan. Not all of that information may be required immediately when applying for a small business loan, but it’s better to be prepared with the information on hand, rather than have to tell them that you’ll have to bring that in at a later date. Your tax records will show the profitability of the business, as well as detail its expenditures. Your bank statements will prove that money is coming in, and that the business is already established. If your business is yet to be launched, you still need to go to the meeting prepared with both two years of tax forms and two years of personal bank statements when applying for a small business loan. This will show the lender that you are a responsible, reliable individual, that you pay your bills, and that you file your taxes in an honest, timely, and fair manner. 5. Resume While not required for a meeting with a lender, it’s probably a good idea for you to have a current resume with you for the interview with the lender when applying for a small business loan. As mentioned, there will be some judgment of your character made at your loan interview. If this should come into play during the interview, you can easily present your resume to show your work experience when applying for a small business loan. This is especially important if you’ve worked in the field in which your business will be based. It’s also important in the instance that you have experience in a business-related area, such as management, marketing, or accounting, to show that you are capable of succeeding in business due to your experience in working with other businesses. The bottom line is to be prepared when applying for a small business loan: - Visit the lender with all files neatly presented and very organized. - Present information as requested during the application process and interview when applying for a small business loan. - Dress for success. Don’t show up at your meeting in jeans and a sweatshirt when applying for a small business loan. - Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten anything, and don’t get flustered. Offer to drop off or fax the requested information as soon as you leave the meeting. Offer to provide any additional information that could possibly play a role in your loan’s approval. If your business loan is not approved, don’t become frustrated. Many small businesses are declined on small business loans. Look into alternative loan sources, and don’t give up. Career Training

By Charles Fuchs Many people desire to move on in their career, tired of going from job to job seeing no advancement, but they do not know how to gain the skills they need to move on. Climbing the career ladder may mean getting career training in order to advance your career and move into management or into a completely new career. Yet knowing what type of career training and where to find good career training can help you on your desire to move on in your career. As you decide to do something different with your career, you need to take a close look at what you would like to do differently. Knowing what you want to do with your career will help you determine what type of career training you will need. For instance, if you are looking at wanting career training to get a promotion, it may take on a very different path than if you want to get career training to get a new job. Once you know what path you would like your career to take, you can then begin to look at what type of career training you will need to take yourself in your new direction. In cases where you are looking for a promotion or a new job in the same field, you may just need to attend some career training classes or symposiums. These types of trainings may only take a day or even just a few weeks. In some cases, you can even complete your training online. However, some promotions and often complete career changes will require significantly more career training. For instance, you may be working in a job that requires a bachelors degree, but you want to change to a job that requires a masters. In other cases, you may have to learn skills that require certifications that could take up to two to three years to earn. If you have your heart set on one of these careers, the time you would devote to this career training will also help you determine if this career change is for you. Knowing where you can gain career training will depend on what you are thinking about doing for a living. If you are considering getting a degree for your career training, you have the option of attending a traditional college or getting your degree online. Even career training that only requires certification in a specific area can often be gotten through the internet. Other types of career training can be found through your current employer or community career center. Some local colleges offer resources for career training that may be related to what you want to do for a living. These resources are often free. Career training can sometimes cost money, and especially degrees can cost significantly. There are a number of resources out there that can help you gain the career training you need if you cannot afford it. Going on a Cruise - Don’t Come Home With Excess Baggage

By Carine Nadel “How can you eat normally knowing you’re leaving on a cruise?” I never thought to do anything but eat “normally”. That’s my secret. I also don’t turn into a vacuum as soon as the gangplank is raised and the ship sets sail. It’s really as simple as listening to your head, not your eyes and stomach. Today’s cruise ships also help out quite a bit. Every ship has a state of the art gym, classes of all different levels and types. Into pilates, you’re covered. Like to “spin”-take a ride. Boxing or Tae Bo? You’re covered. Lifting weights, stair-stepping, treadmill-all there. Just love to walk in the sea air, 24 hour soft track is usually located on the top level. And then there’s the endless staircases taking you from one deck to another. No need for anyone to just sit and gorge themselves up by a pant-size. All ships have some kind of health cuisine. Celebrity is boasts a restaurant near the spa/gym that has only healthy dishes, from appetizers to desserts. Carnival and Princess have healthy choices at all their venues. My way of coming back the same size is to eat basically the same way as when I’m right in my own kitchen. Yes, I do “cheat”, but I also make sure to compensate for my little digressions. Being an avid powerwalker, I usually have a 30 minute session 4 to 5 times a week and I cover 2.25 miles. Plus, I wear a pedometer most days and make sure I get my “10,000″ steps. While on a cruise, I use the jogging track daily, use the gym for my strengthening/stretching routines and I only use the staircases. Let’s face it, if you do all that you’re going to burn off a good deal of calories. Another handy hint-when in port, chose excursions that have something physical to do. On one cruise my husband and I went to a wonderful ecopark, we snorkeled, played in the beach and then took a 3/4 mile swim in an underground cave. Plus we walked around the entire 30 acres. We also took a beach package on a different cruise which had a 2 mile stretch of sand-we walked the entire length, there was 4 miles! When we got back to town, we had the bus drop us off at the start of the shopping area, then we did some window shopping and walked back to the ship. So the next time someone cringes about how much “weight” they’ll be putting on during their seven days at sea, it’s not the food, it’s the “wait” for it. Carine Nadel has seven cruises under her travelling belt and another one set for 2008. Basic Tips for Planning a Wedding

By Tyler Casselman Planning a wedding should be fun and exciting. However, if you don’t do the proper research and stay within your budget things can go bad in a hurry. What you need is to keep things well organized and simple. Here are some tips to help make sure your weeding plans go smoothly. 1. The first thing you should decide is how big and complex you want your wedding to be. Do you want a small wedding? Or would you rather have a big wedding? You need to make sure both you and your partner are on the same page and agree on things. Prepare to make some compromises. 2. Decide on a good theme for your wedding. This includes how people will dress, food, location, and decorations. 3. How much can you really afford. There is no reason to go all out on a wedding if you cant afford it. This could lead to some really big problems with your families and you as a couple. 4. Do you want to hire a wedding planner? Wedding planners are certainly great and do a good job. But there not necessary either. Be sure if you do hire one that they don’t get you spending allot more money then you originally planned. 5. Don’t wait to long to get your plans in order. This is something that you must start taking care of. Start booking locations, getting invitations ready, and find your dress. Planning a wedding takes time and work. You need to set a date and get at it. If you don’t you might find a year or two go by and your still not married. If you follow some of these basic tips I think you will find things to along smoothly. Soon you will be off on your honeymoon with your sweet heart. Offshore Banking Accounts

By Eric Morris For big corporations and even small companies and individuals, it helps to have an offshore bank account to protect cash assets from taxes. An offshore bank account also brings great flexibility to businesses when it comes to fast cash mobility and transactions that usually happen in mergers and acquisitions. This type of setup is often restricted by rigid government controls over the currencies that are in the banks. Often, the best offshore banking locations are small states that do not have strict guidelines on the flow of foreign currencies in and out of their countries and those that do not impose taxes on deposited cash. Some of these are Mauritius, Bahamas, and Antigua and Barbuda. Business experts point out several advantages to having an offshore bank account. They say that many offshore banks charge inexpensive service fees from clients and return higher interest rates compared to most banks. These offshore banks provide their clients with the capability to transfer and move their funds anywhere in the globe at the push of the mouse button. Deposits and withdrawals can be done online and through debit-and-credit automated teller cards. Offshore banks also have strict policies when it comes to protecting the identities of their clients and accountholders. This can be beneficial for most companies that cannot be bothered by constant government and private scrutiny. Host countries of these offshore banks also provide tax shelter. Of course, it is a different scenario when you bring your money back to your country. Offshore banking is regulated by international laws, but most often it is up to the host countries how rigidly they implement them. This is probably the reason why some people have misconceptions about offshore banking as a means used by corporations to defraud their governments. But the fact is that offshore banking is a common practice among the worlds companies. And there is also no law restricting companies and even individuals from opening and maintaining offshore bank accounts. Offshore Banking provides detailed information on Offshore Banking, Antigua Offshore Banking, Offshore Banking Accounts, Bahamas Offshore Banking and more. What Do You Do At Work When There’s Nothing To Do?

By Dr. Gary S. Goodman It seems like the perfect time to balance your checkbook, or to catch up on a little light reading, or to call your best bud and have a chat. But you dont dare do any of these happy things, because, no matter how you cut it, youre still at work! How can you justify making your personal vacation plans at Travelocity.com or at Orbitz.com, when youre being paid to do something else? Customarily, this isnt a concern, because theres enough work to keep you busy. But every business has its lulls And this puts you in a bind. If youre obviously goofing-off, you can be reprimanded and punished, and who wants that? But how can you even stay awake unless youre doing something more stimulating than waiting for the phone to ring or for the next, obviously lost and disoriented soul, to stumble into your retail establishment? Like a warrior without a war, whats a highly trained, ultra-disciplined trooper, like you, to do? What DO you do at work when theres nothing to do? Vegetating is not the answer, so here are some possibilities: (1) Communicate with the higher-ups and ask them flat-out, what can I do when theres nothing to do? If they give you a deer in the headlights look, continue to number (2), below. (2) Ask them, specifically, if you can catch up on some personal things, like scheduling your daughters next soccer practice, or calling the contractor to find out exactly when hes going to install those replacement windows. (3) Also, try to get a sense of the cultural boundaries in which youre silently operating. Ask, Would I get in trouble, or seem like a flake or a bad worker if I went ahead and did these personal things, during the doldrums, at 4:45 on Friday afternoon–the last working day before Christmas?” (4) You may be lucky enough to be in a hang-loose place, where everybody tries to beat the traffic on Fridays. If theyre all taking off at 2:30, never to be seen again, ask if you can, too. Even if you can take off, you have to use your political savvy and sixth sense to determine if youre going to lose points by not hanging in there until official quitting time. If they say one thing, verbally, like, go ahead and leave; but you get the feeling that theyre nonverbally saying another, like youd better not, then youd better stick around until someone, who has power says: Are you still here? Go home! Dr. Gary S. Goodman, President of www.Customersatisfaction.com, is a popular keynote speaker, management consultant, and seminar leader and the best-selling author of 12 books, including Reach Out & Sell Someone and Monitoring, Measuring & Managing Customer Service.
